Discover the world of data science! Visit the joint station of the VCLA and TU Wien Informatics eduLAB at the Vienna Research Festival (Forschungsfest) at the City Hall on March 21-23 for fun activities for all age groups. Admission-free!

This is an event for the whole family, and there will be a special area dedicated to children below the age of six. Our station—station number 2 in the courtyard—is called The World of Data Science.

Every day, vast amounts of data are collected—tracking where we go, what we buy, and who we interact with. But what can we do with all this information? At the Forschungsfest, we organize data using various methods, including scales, sorting networks, and decision trees.

We will offer three activities:

• sorting cans according to their weight using sorting scales and different strategies
• physically sorting numbers or other data using two six-input sorting networks that are drawn on a canvas on the floor
• building a decision tree to categorize fruits

There will be two other stations from TU Wien (“Caring Robots” and “Access Tech”), and many more interesting stations and workshops showing the fascinating research that is happening all over Vienna! The event will also inform about different career/job perspectives (“Straße der Berufe”). So come join us—we’re very much looking forward to this exciting event!
